Tell us a little bit about yourself

Previously a high school teacher, I found my passion for solving problems lead me to legal practice. Now I am fortunate enough to be faced with solving a variety of complex problems daily. When I am not problem solving at work, I like to be outside running, surfing or spending time with friends and family.

Tell us about your career journey so far and what led you to Law Squared

Prior to my legal career I worked as a teacher in a number of schools both locally and internationally. I found teaching to be a very rewarding career, but I was looking to broaden my opportunities and challenge myself. My favourite aspect of being a teacher was working with my students, their parents and fellow colleagues to ensure that my students could achieve their potential. I quickly came to realise that my passion was helping people solve problems, regardless of size or context. With this in mind, I started studying whilst working full time and subsequently completed my LLB.

During the school summer break, I was fortunate enough to complete a clerkship at Gadens and worked in the Corporate Advisory team. During my time at Gadens I gained valuable insights into corporate advisory work and was able to work alongside one of Australia’s leading sports lawyers which was insightful.

After completing my degree, I stopped teaching and clerked at Merton Lawyers on the Gold Coast, working in the litigation team. Here I primarily supported the lawyers within that team, by drafting court documents and assisting liquidators in debt recovery and disputes. Once completing my PLT, I was admitted into the legal practice in late 2022.

Finally, following an exciting interviewing process, I was fortunate enough to score a position as a Graduate in the inaugural group at Law Squared. Now I’m here!

Jackson joined Law Squared’s graduate program in January 2023.

Tell us about the Law Squared difference. What makes Law Squared standout from the traditional law firms around the country and the world?

In the age of innovation, the legal industry has struggled to meet the market’s needs on so many levels. Law Squared has seen this as an opportunity to make a profound impact for those seeking legal services and the professionals that work within the law. Law Squared has done this in several ways:

  1. Technology Driven – Law Squared is a standout when it comes to their adaptations to the array of technologies that make everyone’s life easier. Being an essentially paperless law firm means that processes are fast, efficient and secure, not to mention the clear environmental benefits being a paperless firm presents.

  2. Client Focussed – Law Squared endeavours to create long lasting relationships with their clients so that they eventually become friends. As I was an educator I truly value relationships and see them as being integral to ensuring people have their needs met and that positive outcomes are achieved.

  3. Flexibility – As technology and innovation is at the core of Law Squared’s development, this allows it to be adaptable to the variety of commercial situations any business may find themselves in. It seems like this allows the people at Law Squared to essentially dance under the ‘Law Squared Umbrella’.

  4. Multi-Skilled Team – Law Squared is comprised of several different expert teams. Although primarily a law firm providing legal services, Law Squared also has a strong consulting arm which strives to help businesses streamline their processes and internal systems. Therefore, truly being a one stop shop for all businesses to utilise. This makes it an exciting place to work, with lots of different project across many fields.

  5. Culture – Having dispensed with formal hierarchy, a strong collaborative culture exists. It also allows everyone to understand how almost all aspects of the business are run. This is great for overall learning, but also creates greater transparency and communication which in turn builds a better team.

  6. Multi-Jurisdictional – Law Squared has offices in Brisbane, Sydney, Melbourne and London. This allows Law Squared to provide a greater scope of service and knowledge to their clients. Additionally, having the option to potentially practice across the different offices in different jurisdictions is an exciting difference for employees.

  7. No Time Billing – The fact that law squared does not record time like many traditional law firms is better for both lawyers and clients.

Outside of work, what do you love to do, and where would we find you?

When I am not working, I love being outdoors. Most of the time playing a sport of some kind, running or surfing. Other than that, I enjoy watching movies and hanging with friends and family.
