Privacy Policy

There are not many (if any) businesses which don’t capture customer and/or client data as part of their day to day interactions and engagements. From the collection of names, addresses, date of birth, email addresses and more, businesses need to have clear rules and guidelines on the collection, storage and use of individuals personal data. With the rise of cyber security awareness, obligations for businesses to mandatory report any data breaches and consumer awareness of their rights increasing, a Privacy Policy is an important starting point for many (if not all) businesses.

What is it?

A Privacy Policy is both an internal and external document which informs customers, users and individuals whose data you collect on the collection, storage and use of that data by your business. Australia has a strict privacy regime which is covered by the Australian Privacy Principles and businesses need to ensure they are compliant with these Principles as part of their daily operations.

Whilst having a Privacy Policy on your website and integrated into any sign up or log in process of your business, it is critical that your staff, suppliers and management have a clear understanding of the businesses obligations and responsibilities under the Privacy Policy and also under the Australian Privacy Principles. With consumer action against companies who misappropriate their data on the rise, compliance is key.
